"The Kids Are Alright" Except You & Go Read Theory debut on US 41, New Charlie Pace too, Jellyroll

I was a little bit surprised in the first few months of US 41's existence, that more of the young bands and musicians in our area weren't taking advantage of US 41's airplay and worldwide reach. The older, veteran musicians were on top of it, and participated eagerly, but with the exception of Charlie Pace and Matrasa Lynn, the US 41 airwaves were bereft of the sounds of our young musicians...And I get it, we do play a LOT of older music, and I'm old enough to be a Grandfather to most of these kids, and quite frankly, live radio, as a medium, is a tad on the "stone age" side.

But we are ALL ABOUT playing new music and supporting our local artists. We are currently playing 25 new records and over 60 local/regional bands on a regular basis.

And we want EVERYONE represented...and over the last few weeks, we've started to receive submissions from some of the younger bands in the area...or as I call them "The Ollie's Bands." The bands that play at Ollie's Pub Records and Beer, a local establishment that does a lot to support the indie music scene here in Southwest Florida. Listen for "Except You" and "Go Read Theory," 2 exciting Punk bands from Cape Coral on US 41...and Charlie Pace has a new exciting Rock record out called "Please You." It's important that we encourage these kids to get out there and get their music heard!!

And while we're talking demographics, let's talk about the grown-ups...and I hear this all the time... "Today's music sucks!!" And yeah, I'd kinda agree with them, most of the new music on the radio is "mediocre," and I get why a 60 year old man/woman may not care for it. When we select new music for US 41, we try for the most part, to play music that will fit in with the Classic Rock, Reggae and Blues that we play. Artists Like Ken Valdez, Marcus King, heck, even Maneskin, have roots in Classic Rock. And we feel it's important to play new music on US 41 if only to keep the Rock genre from disappearing altogether. We added a new record this week that i think that everyone who listens to US 41 will dig. It's from Nashville artist/rapper, Jellyroll. Jellyroll is HOT at several radio formats with some of his heavier stuff, but we've found a track from his album, that we think EVERYONE will dig, it's called "Son of a Sinner." It's been out a few months but please listen, and you tell me if this isn't a PERFECT song for US 41!

US 41 welcomes Z's Music Kitchen back to our airwaves. Z's is located in Freedom Square in Naples, and they've just released their new menu for the Summer season. They've got something special going on at this relatively new Naples restaurant, and they're supporting the live music scene as well. Tom, his wife, Laurie and their son, Alex, invite you to come down and sample their unique pasta dishes, a savory had-cut steak, or just pop in for Happy Hour. Listen for more Z's Music Kitchen information on US 41.

Have a great week, and thanks for supporting US 41 Radio!-Matt
