We have a new #1 song on US 41, and it comes from the distant pass....Kate Bush was brought to the attention of the music loving public in the late 70's thanks to an amazing single called "Wuthering Heights" that was produced by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. In 1985, she came closest to having a "hit" single in America, as "Running Up That Hill" made a play for the middle of the Billboard Top 100, but it was never a big record for Kate. She actually got more airplay a few year later when she dueted with Peter Gabriel on "Don't Give Up' from Peter's album "So." I'm not a big TV watcher, so when US 41 started getting a bunch of requests for an almost 40 year old song, I did some digging. "Hill" was topping Spotify and selling big download numbers, and a few days later I found out why. The song had been featured on an episode of the popular NETFLIX series "Stranger Things," and had been discovered or re-discovered by the airplay. I never object to having a great new song to play, even if it came out in 1985. I encourage you to see out Kate's extensive catalog. She's a true talent in this current pop landscape of auto-tune wanna-be's.
Great to see the support for the Howland-Hyatt single. While the band has had some snags with their live appearance schedule, "Wrapped In Chains" started taking off a few weeks ago, and if it weren't for the "all of a sudden" popularity of Kate Bush, HH would be #1 this week.
Local heroes the Freecoasters are headed out for a short, 2- week tour that will take them to a few big cities, including Washington, DC and NYC. Good luck, safe travels, and I hope those gas prices don't kill any profit you may make!!
Had a chance to get over to The Ranch Concert Hall & Saloon Wednesday to see a rehearsal gig by Polo Staber's Down South. This band is the real deal! They've got the songs, and once they nail their live show down and perfect it, these guys are going to be VERY popular around here. Imagine a band that plays songs that sound like Def Leppard meets Lynyrd Skynyrd...Then you'd have "Down South." US 41 is efforting to get the band some gigs so you can see what we're talking about for yourselves. Listen for "Down South" on US 41, and more gig information coming soon.!!
